Leaking Inlet manifold seals
Following me completely rebuilding my 2.2 I am now ironing out teething problems. The gaskets came in a rebuild kit and I used what came in the kit throughout the engine. I’ve now done a couple of hundred miles and kept it off boost as much as possible to keep the stress down. A hissing noise developed and I was struggling to find it so got some plumbers smoke matches and pumped the smoke in using a plastic bottle and a shrader valve.

I identified that it was coming from a gasket on the inlet manifold. I removed cleaned and refitted the gaskets. The test drive went brilliantly for about a mile then I pushed on a bit harder and woosh. I got back smoked it again and the same gasket had popped out.

The gaskets appear to be too soft and are flexing too much allowing them to be pushed out

New oem seals installed as opposed to the ones that came In a full engine rebuild kit. All is good and no leaks present. Lesson learned don’t use cheap stuff just because you have it.
