location of non return valve on td5 rear w/washer
Hi,
Just replaced the rear windscreen washer pump in my 1999 TD5 Defender 110. Pump works, water comes out of the join in pipes in the engine coompartment just by NSF bulkhead ... unfortunately never appears at the washer jet at the back end.

Removed the rear nozzle so theres just a pipe there ... still no joy.

Is there a non return valve somewhere between engine compartment and the back door ? ?

Mine was once blocked as it runs up the windscreen pillar amongst the wires - I have too many wires squashed beneath the plastic cover - worth a check
I also once swapped the front and back hoses over (both have joins where you described yours leaking) - good way to test pumps and pipes independently

Yup did the swapping over bit to determine whether the rear washer motor was working or not.

o.k. I'll start looking at the dashboard bit and work back

Where's the non return valve gone!
I was going to pose the same question, where is the non return valve for the rear as according to the parts list there should be one. The front setup has a non return just outside of the bulkhead. There is a joiner on the rear pipe in about the same position as the front setup. I'm wondering if the NRV has been swapped out for a joiner in the past.

The reason I ask is because the rear wash won't spray. Pump works, jet at the back is fine but there is a blockage somewhere between the bulk head and the jet at the back. Makes sense the pipe is trapped in the pillar and that the NRV is in the same place as the front.

I would be interested though from someone who can tell me for defo where the rear NRV should be! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Mike

Try looking at the top of the nearside A post behind the trim panel that's where it was on my old 90 - top of the windscreen at the point where it has to terminate if you remove the roof to convert to truck cab or soft top etc.

In my TD5 110 ( 1999) its not behinnd the trim panel ... which would be a damn good place for it, its behind the head liner just above the NSF door. You don't have to take the whole headd liner out, just remove the 2 plastic fixing screws /plugs ( use a proper removal tool, the damn things are i there tight) near the windscreen end of the headliner. You can then pull back the liner and get hold of the washer tubing and pull it out to replace the NRV

BTW was in the same place for a friends 300 TDI 110 as well

Found mine under the head lining just after the plastic window post trim finishes if that makes sense!

Anyway I've fitted a new one way valve and its all working again. I fitted a new one for the front screen as well as it seemed the washer water was draining back to the reservoir tank. Its sort the drain back and given me a lot more squirt pressure. A winner!!

Thanks for the advice Guys Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Mike
