Wales 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Alpine White
US to metric Bolt Size
Question for all the bolt-heads out there...
I'm wanting to change the mounting of my catch can. It was bought from Australia and made in USA.
Google just confused me more & local hardware stores have no idea...
The supplier has not responded after 3 emails over 6 weeks, but eventually the manufacturer came back that it needs '10 32 x 1/2 allen head bolts'.
Not sure what "10" is? "32" is 32 threads per inch (UNF) "1/2" length = 12.7mm
The best I could find M5x .8? Have no idea about the "x" though?
Hope the wealth of knowledge on here will be able to give me a straight answer?

The 10 refers to bolt diameter, it is a screw gauge

10 is 0.19 inch or 4.8260mm, 32 is 32 threads or UNF fine. 1/2 is 0.5 inch


Just google 10-32x1/2 and you will fine sources of the bolt and wikipedia unified thread standard

Those bolts are available from westfieldfastners.co.uk

is that what we used to call '3/16 unf'? i.e. next size down from a quarter unf!

off topic, but does anyone else walk into the plumbing merchants and ask for two lengths of 1/2" copper?

Well I still think of timber as 2 x 2, 4 x 2, 6 x 1 etc.


Much simpler then 47 x 47 or 96 x 47 etc. Well to be honest I can not remember the exact metric sizes!

Now 1/2” to 15mm and 3/4” to 22 mm copper tubing was back in late 70’s or early 80’s. Now the slight difference in size and I can not remember what we used to do to get solder joints and compression joints to work on the different sizes.

For 3/4 to 22mm compression fittings you use a green olive iirc
