2013 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Santorini Black
Can someone work this out??
Evening everyone,

Just looking to vent this as I really don’t get this...

So i own an old 300 defender but always wanted a tidy late puma, so after months of looking found a 2013 defender in black with all the extras, including full service history with just 12k on the clock. So i paid a tidy wedge to landrover maidstone and it was mine. (After a 3hr drive)

The plan was to part with the 300 which I couldn’t do. No problem I thought as the puma could be a toy that is just polished and took out on sunny days, and the 300 for mud/carparks/schoolrun.

Now i insured the puma through landrover insurance because i liked the fact if the worst were to happen, it would go to landrover direct and genuine parts etc.

So:

£532 fully comp
Valued at £26500
Completely standard
11.000 miles a year (actually done 3000)
9 years no claims
No accidents, points or convictions
Disklok, hinge guards, bonnet security hinges and pedal lock
Boxed in on driveway in a quiet location

Now ive had a renewal quote through for the same company for

[/b]£936!!!

I honestly dont get it!!!

I now have two options

Cancel insurance, put it in the garage and throw a cover over it and forget about it for ten years

Or

Sell it and smoke the 300 round.

Can anyone enlighten me as im so confused???

Sorry for the spill

Kind regards

Tom

I would suggest you speak to a mainstream insurance company before you choose either of your proposed options. It doesn't seem a reasonable cost last year, let alone this year's renewal.

LV were the best when I looked around last May

My 2008 2.4 Puma 7 seater SW only costs £259

There are zero benefits for loyalty in insurance these days

Thanks chaps,

Ive been reading previous posts and will try a plan tomorrow if they’re open.

I get bored of explaining on the 300’s renewal that i dont want key, windscreen, audio cover etc

Ive actually been refused cover on a nissan micra that i bought off an auntie because i valued it at £100 quid. They said at that value i would neglect servicing and deemed it a high risk!!

My heads gone with it all, crap singing adverts and a total con

Just for the record though, would i be within my right to say i wanted a repair done at landrover dealer instead of a back street garage if the worst were to happen??

I have a 2015 XS 90 and a 2017 Disco Sport insured through A Plan which costs a couple of quid less than you were paying last year for your Puma. Make sure you go to A Plan's Thatcham office. Defender 90XS SW

That depends upon the insurance terms. Normally, they have a network of approved garages. If you want to use someone else, you have to go through the hassle of arranging quotes.

As AMBxx says, you have to get quotes, but ultimately you can decide who will do the repairs. Just google to see the case law.

Land Rover dealers don't typically do accident repairs so it'd end up at a dedicated body shop anyway. Darren

As above. Try LV. They were by far the lowest cost when mine came up for renewal in October.

In fact you could get a quote for putting both Defenders on their multi car policy and get an extra discount.

If both are standard trim with no modifications then you can get a quote online through the LV website.
If I recall correctly you could declare engine maps and towbars as mods online, but I had to call them as I have a winch fitted which wasn't in the modifications list.

I shop around every year as there are £100's to save across the three vehicles we insure.

And if you are taking out insurance online, with LV or AN Other, don't forget to check out Topcashback and Quidco to see if you can get any cashback. Topcashback are currently offering £36.75 back on an LV car policy Smile
