Tonight my red mobilizer light came on. I thought perhaps my fob battery was dead, so I opened it up and to my horror...
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The battery clasp had broken off from the circuit board! When I went to use the spare fob, I suddenly realized it didn't work last time I tried it. Then it hit me that ever since I changed my ECU (acquired one here from a member with an upgraded chip, so no need to send mine off to be done. Now I have a spare) it hasn't ever worked. (red flashing immobilizer light) since the swap (when trying the spare fob) I'm dead in the water so to speak. Thinking that potentially the spare fob had a dead battery, I swapped the fob batteries. Nothing. Went through the battery change procedure, (disconnect the vehicle battery for a minute) tried to sinc the spare fob once the vehicle battery was connected... nothing. Anyone have any insight or ideas ?? it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

Can you solder or know someone who can?
Solder the battery cage back on to the working fob or transplant the one from the other fob. This gets you one working fob (hopefully!) Perhaps first hold the broken off battery cage down over the battery, making the circuit complete again and try the unlock button to check the fob is ok. ![]() ![]() |

I don't have any soldering tools, so I am going to take it to an electronic repair store and see if I can get it soldered.
I did try holding the cage in place with the battery, but no luck. (tough to keep all 3 points of contact at once in the exact spot) I'm also going to try to get the spare working properly. What's the procedure with fobs when the ECU is changed? I'm guessing that it wasn't done. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

You only need one of the three to make contact (they are common).

$19.95 investment into a soldering iron and solder (plus a new battery for both fobs for $11.00) and we are up and running again
![]() My spare fob, even with a new battery, still isn't working though.... it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

The spare fob will need programming to the new ecu I’m guessing. Ray

10AS will need to learn the new fob 16 number code.
You can learn up to 4 fobs, but each time you make it learn you will need to do all the fobs at the same time. eg if you now have two working ones, when you put it into learn to input the third one, you will still need to make it learn all three together. The defender has migrated, leaving the owner behind. |
