Can these tubed defenders be road legal
Evening all
Spotted at a recent off road event , this green defender was trailered to the event , and I like the look , but mine although only a toy , must be road legal , as long as the tyres are in theory covered and lights etc fitted , could it be legal on our roads

Yes challenge vehicles can be road legal, if tax, MOT, insured with correct lights, tyres, number plates etc.

DaveW on here runs a road legal challenge truck and takes part in some serious challenges in it including Outback Challenge, Muddy Truckers etc

No reason why not body wise, no sharp edges as far as I can see and the wheels seem to be covered with no tread visible from above but that's hard to confirm from the photos.

The only "not road legal" bit that I can see is the lights (or lack of them). http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Thinking of the light situation standard LR lights may well not fit in the front wings of that sort of challenge truck.

However there are some really nifty LED lights out there. There are 90mm dip and main beam headlights and multifunctional lights such as DRL/indicator/fog etc. Can get 4 or 5 functions built into a single 90mm unit in an approved light unit.

As long as you don’t chop the chassis about and thereby trigger an IVA requirement and can comply with the rest of the Construction & Use (ie, as mentioned, the wheel / tyre covering aspect) with lights meeting the positioning rules, you should be OK

Now that is good news , my tub and my wings are getting bad , so it’s a great excuse to change , thanks everyone , now I just need to locate the said tube work , so front tube seem to narrow in at the front , but I want to stay defender width . Thanks again
