Vacuum Pump Failure 2.4 Tdci

Well it finally happened, my vacuum pump failed at 110,000 miles. ('07 2.4 110 hardtop)
Checking the oil after arriving at our holiday destination on the west coast revealed the tell tale splatter of oil under the near side wing and bonnet.

Nearest Land Rover dealer - 150 mile round trip and no pump or gasket in stock. LR price is approximately £260 +VAT.

I can happily report however that a pump for a 2.4 rear wheel drive Mk6 Transit is a direct fit replacement.

A local Dingbro motor factor had a pump in stock £103.36 VAT included. They didn't have a gasket, but I was directed to a local Ford dealer who had one at £14.86.

Swapping was easy enough. 6 x 1/4 turn fasteners to remove the upper cooling fan shroud, then using a 3/8" extension on a ratchet through the largest gap in the fan blades, release the serpentine belt tensioner tension and lift the belt of the vacuum pump pulley. 3 x m10 bolts hold the pump on. Once the bolts are out, the pump lifts off its dowells and gasket. The vacuum pump pipe is attached to the rear of the pump by a push lock fitting. Where the pipe enters the fitting, there is a small collar. Push this into the fitting and its grip on the pipe will be released. When re-fitting, just push the pipe in by hand until its fully seated.

Part numbers in case they are of assistance.
FORD Genuine gasket - G 1103683 £14.83
Dingbro Motor Spares Vacuum Pump 1434548-A £103.36 (supplied by Hamtune Ford spares)

The pump has a part number of YC1Q 2A451 AJ on it. The one removed from my Landy had a similar number ending in AG. I have seen other Land Rovers with pumps ending in AH so I believe its just a version / revision number. The Land Rover part number for the pump is LR014973 which I believe superseded LR012183.

Unfortunately I didn't have many tools with me so I had to purchase some 3/8" tools (any excuse!)
I know that pumps can be purchased from our usual suppliers but I was on the road and far from home.

I hope this may be of help to others as I'd hate someone to be off the road for days when there is usually a work around

Regarding my submission above - the three bolts which hold on the vacuum pump are M8 x 75mm bolts. They are not M10. The socket for their removal is a 10mm socket. Preferably a deep socket, as the bolt nearest the wing has a portion is thread which extends above the bolts head. It's obvious if you see it in the flesh so to speak. Hope this hasn't caused any confusion.
