Tyre Test - AT compared to All Season
There’s been quite a bit of discussion about using AT tyres in winter road condition so though this test might be of interest. Mostly “all season” tyres but includes two AT patterns as well.

AT's don't do well under wet braking, wet handling and aquaplaning, in fact it's quite worrying really. I know AT's have a bias towards off road conditions and all tyres are a compromise but it does seem that we are compromising safety when travelling on the road in the wet with our AT's. Some of us have experienced wet handling with AT's but it makes you wonder how many drivers look at the chunky tread pattern (some of it going halfway up the tyre wall nowadays) and think all four wheels will bite into the tarmac like a crocodile. Defender 90XS SW

Personally I find at’s And even mt’s very good when it comes to aquaplaning. I think due to the tread depth, so the water has somewhere to go.

I have some rather large (not sure if that makes a difference) General Grabber AT2's. I don't half need to keep my wits about me in heavy rain. If there's standing water I'd glide around the place.

interesting.. I have some old M/Ts on my truck, and am discussing these with people..

I have had a couple of lock ups in the wet/damp tarmac under moderate breaking. I just think the compound in them has hardened.

They will be changed in due time.. Regards

I have used this site a few times over the years..

That link made for some interesting reading thank you...

The mid range (as in practicality - not price) was Nokian WeatherProof SUV - but my local supplier doesn't seem to have them.. I will ask them..

But on the website to buy a package deal I was given the choice of rim first.
I quite like the deep dish modular.. so selected them..
Then the only choice of tyre was Cooper Discoverer STT Pro

But think id rather an all terrain - but they aren't supposed to be good in the wet... AND that's the whole reason im changing my tyres... Rolling Eyes Regards
Adam
