Broken front axle ?
I Was driving back from town this afternoon and the steering was gradually pulling to the left more and more to the point I thought I must have a flat tyre. Pulled into the farm to take a look and the near side wheel was off at a angle , looked underneath and the entire axle housing has split !
Pics attached , I can only imagine that’s a new axle ?!

Looks like the weld has failed. Surprised Shocked

Very dangerous indeed and I'd say you were very lucky there both yourself and mechanically. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

That's not good. How many miles, usage?

You can get that welded back up, prob in a jig. Cheers

There was a recall for that which involves either adding brackets or replacing the axle:

But this was for MY11/MY12, yours is a MY09, so that's worrying indeed! “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

It’s a 2009 with 130k on the clock , I never abuse it , my wife calls me Captain Slow !
Just can’t believe that such a major mechanical part could fail !

There was a slight leak from the joint to the right which ironically I rung up about this morning . The local specialist booked it in for the 29th but I guess it will be in for a more major repair !

What do you all think , a whole nearly new axle or a brand new casing ?

I'd say you were extremely lucky to find that before it failed completely which could be a disaster.

a second hand old axle to fit your bits to would be relatively cheap to sort, especially if you can wield the spanners DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

I would contact Land Rover as it’s a known problem and see if they will replace it! It’s not a wear and tear item that’s a manufacturer defect. That is scary Shocked

I’m going to crack on and replace the axle. I’ve got three options and would appreciate opnions as they differ wildly in cost . All I need is the axle casing , I believe the part number is TAJ500090

Here are the options

1. Genuine new Land Rover @ 1600 plus vat
2. OEM new @ 700 plus vat
3. Reconditioned genuine @600 plus vat

OR

a complete second hand axle from a low mileage post 2013 truck ?

The first option is very nearly out of the question !
