Why is the Warn M8000 so cheap!

I recently sold both my winches for my Series 2 as I no longer had a client where I used to fell trees and shift the remains. I now have a similar situation but the trees I am felling are at the bottom of a steep bank maybe 150' down and I need to seed and plant the whole area down there. The trees need shifting to the top where they can be stored to one side and out of the way.

I don't want to pull them up with the Series as the loose ground would just get turned up so I want to pull them up with a winch (no room at top to reverse and pull them up -hedge in way!). Sorry rambling.... Tirfor winches etc would be to slow so I was looking for a winch to maybe put on the Puma to pull some trees up - it wouldn't be for self recovery as I wouldn't be using her for that.

So finally coming back to the M8000 why is it a lot cheaper than the others with similar power and weight e.g. roughly £500 compared to roughly £1000

Any winch advice appreciated

I can only find the M8000 at close to £1,000 in the UK

Bob, do a google search there are a few companies doing them for about £550 inc Warn have drooped the price to get people into the brand as Warn are out of the justifiable reach for many!

M8000 with BOW motor is compact and super strong.

What is a BOW motor?

It would add 60KG (34KG winch and 25KG for a First Four bumper) to the front so maybe a portable one would be better for my needs........

For what you're doing a capstan would be a better bet.

Anyone still make capstans for current Defender models?

Bow motors look here

They are highly regarded by the winch comp boys. Also look at the Gigglepin site.

However a Bow motor may not be necessary for your application.

Demountable winch? Consider a 2" receiver front and rear with Anderson connectors for power supply.

Thanks if I am going to go for permanent fixture I am looking at the Devon 4X4 Clubman winch bumper with the Warn M8000 and replacing the wire with rope to lessen the weight again.

Will look into a demountable winch

Hmm, not quite what I had in mind! I was thinking more of the kit for the Stage 1 V8 and later, but I haven't seen one on anything later than a 200Tdi.

Well I bought a Warn M8000 as it was a bargain and will look into capstan winches also

They are advertised for about £960 still but ask for Steve and you will get one for £550
