Early Ninety on eBay
I like this.

But then I'm not "right" in the head. Laughing

Not a lot of money for a little runabout that could be useful for a lot of things, and there are fewer and fewer of these about in anything approaching original condition.

Those bulkhead top corners put later Defenders to shame...

That's lovely. Galv cappings over red is a great combination. Darren

That’s spot on especially being a petrol. These early 80s Ninetys seemed to have better bulkheads than the later versions. Just needs using and wiping with an oily rag, I like it.

Is that the correct rear x-member? I thought the inset towing socket was on the TD5 models? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Nice thing, but it's petrol!!!

Lift up handles on one piece doors with galvy cappings - rare beast.

It is maybe the hole was for the power take off.

Also with new head and valves which I am sure would now have a head for unleaded fuel, as the original engine's valves were not as they had soft valve seats. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

It's not a PTO hole - they were never provided on production Ninetys. It's also on the wrong side. Darren

Probably should have grab handles on the cross member too?

Ah, now, the rear crossmember is a moot point and I think it is original.

All early Ninetys (and One Tens) had a hole in that location, in which to mount the trailer socket.

The problem is that Td5's have a hole in the same location, yet it is slightly different and is constructed differently.

Most early coilers have lost their original rear crossmember.

All but one of mine has, and I've been trying for ages to get someone to re-manufacture the correct crossmember - with no luck so far.

If this little red Ninety still has its original (which I think it does) then that is a big plus.

Early Ninetys came with a pair of galvanised rear grab handles as standard, so I can't explain their absence here.

Edit: I've just checked with an "A list" rivet-counter friend and he thinks it is a replacement crossmember. So they probably didn't bother to replace the grab handles.

Looking at the MOT history it’s had a lot of fails due to chassis corrosion, I assume it’s had a lot of patching up over the years, I still like it though, early petrol Ninety are becoming a rare thing.

What's the petrol engine of that era like to use? How much would a galv chassis swap cost? Whistle Thumbs Up Would it be sacrilege to convert this to a soft top? James
