Morocco August 2018
Will start my D2 Morocco blog now I finally have some WiFi.

Drove to Dover and crossed to Calais on a hot a sweaty day. Then pushed on through France at 70mph from 9am until 12am and ended up just south of Bilbao. Camped in a Spanish service station and will learn that they are crumby. Will camp in a French one next time.

Next morning up and away around 7am towards Gibraltar. Camped near to Tarifa which is only 25mins drive to Algeciras. A nice few drinks and BBQ got us all ready for Africa. We could see the African coastline from the campsite and excitement was building.

1330 crossing to Ceuta with FRS. Ticket was £80 cheaper at the port than booking ahead online. No touts but best to use the tickets boothes who are the companies themselves not the myriad of ‘helpful third parties’.

Then to the border. 3 hrs wait. No problems just a general inability to work faster than stopped and volume of vehicles.

You'll note that he made from Calais to Bilbao in just three hours Whistle . I don't have kids, but apparently that's manageable. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Ha, very good. 12am and updated. Our three kids are brilliant long distance travellers and not one “are we nearly there yet”. They know the hours that will need to pass and get on with it. Humbling really as I couldn’t have done it!

So into Morocco on day 3, first ATM to get dirhams (using Revolut) and upto Chefchaouen for the night. Around 2hrs from the border. Lovely little campsite overlooking the pretty blue town. Was just setting up and a familiar burble .... Classic Range Rover appeared and usual parking rules applied. They had driven a similar route to get there from Paris and had air con, until it gave up 3hrs into journey. Inside temp gauge said 60deg and I wouldn’t argue as our dynamat started oozing with the heat. Interesting Heath Robinson water tanks and sliding camping set up but had a lovely chassis and rebuilt engine!

We have planned to rough camp it in some places but there are so many Auberges with camping and basic facilities for peanuts. Normally £5-6 a night all in.

Pedant mode on (sorry), and this possibly should be in the "Grumpy Old Man" thread since it is one of my recurring peeves.

12AM and 12PM are in fact technically both midnight, since "AM" translated means "before noon" and "PM" means "after noon", therefore neither can actually be noon.

The time one minute after 11:59 AM is properly "12 noon", and one minute after 11:59 PM is "12 midnight".

Pedant mode off again, I'll go back to sleep. Laughing

Great thread, by the way, I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

Wooah. That just did my head in. A bit like 'who created us?', because someone must have created that creator, and the creator before that creator must have been created by another creator. But then who created the first creator, because surely their creator would actually have been the first creator, which is then sort of impossible as surely they would be the first creator...if you get my drift. 12am and 12pm can't either be noon? Is that time just lost in some vortex? What's going to happen to FamilyMad now that he's changed the time? Too much to handle dude, just too much. Rolling with laughter Monsieur Le Grenadier

Indeed Mo.

Although if you think about it is 00:00 not also 24:00?

Or does the clock skip from 23:59 to 00:00 or from 24:00 to 00:01?

If the former is true does that mean there aren't actually 24 hours in the 24 hour clock?

Perhaps it's just one of those mysteries.

Like why did some mammals move back into water?

Or

Who actually buys a new Vauxhall?

Wow, I can just about cope with "what existed before the big bang?" and "what contains the universe?", but "who buys a new Vauxhall?" is too much, that I cannot deal with!

I'm going to lie down for a while. Shocked
