Fantastic - but I can't see my computer controlled relatively complicated 2.4tdci ever replacing those simple, easy to fix and characterful Series I's.

Nor, I think, will the next generation Defender. Big Cry

A cracking little film. I do find it interesting to see JLR relying so heavily on a culture that they have abandoned.

I notice also that although the company now makes vehicles under the name "Landrover", it used to be (and was at the time the vehicles featured were built) "Land-Rover" with a hyphen and two capitals, yet throughout the film the two separate words Land Rover (without the hyphen) are used. I cannot help but wonder whether this is symptomatic of a general sloppiness and ignorance within the marketing department at JLR. Perhaps they think it doesn't matter. Perhaps I am overthinking it.

Geraldine McGovern must hate that film, it is filled with character-full vehicles, with roof racks no less! Rolling with laughter

They were all Land-Rovers until the early 80s, round about the time they changed to coils the hyphen was dropped. I'm not sure when exactly they became Landrover...if ever they officially did.

Not entirely sure just what series 1s have got to do with the modern company anyway... 2011 110 USW
1973 Series III 1-Ton
1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker
1969 IIA 1-Ton
1966 IIA 88"

What a great video. They spoke very passionately about those old work horses and I bet in 10-20 years time they are still making that journey with drivers who have great vehicles and a knowledge born out of use and understanding of a classic vehicle.

Land rovers are not for occasional use but to be worked to see the very best from them. No modifications, just pure basic vehicles that do the job asked of them.
Brilliant Thumbs Up

Exactly ! the Land Rover market has changed, as has society. No longer are they thought of as a working vehicle they are now a lifestyle vehicle. All that JLR have done and in fact still doing IMHO is keeping up with and leading that with designs that are in some eyes are innovative and future proofing the brand.

The 1st world Land of Landrover is no longer an environment that needs a utilitarian vehicle to do a task but it is one that needs a vehicle to portray a social status and an ideology that nods at the past with patronising attitude.
the modern day Landrover owners wouldn't know how to drive a series vehicle with mechanical sympathy , in fact to drive anything that requires thought and ability
