London to Cape Town
I'm thinking about doing a trip from London to Cape Town either late 2018 or early 2019 in my 130. I'm trying to find recent trip reports of people who have made this journey, suitable routes etc. But struggling to find anything recent.

My main concern is safety through parts of Africa, as it stands I will be travelling solo. On that note if anyone is interested in doing it with me do let me know Smile

Anyone got any experience doing this trip, or pointers to people/resources that can help with planning it? @tab.travels on instagram

One of our customers has just driven up from Cape Town. Currently in Italy on way back to UK. Hopes to make it back to the UK in time for the Kelmarsh show.

Do you mind if I pass on your contact details?

I suspect it's the same person as Brendan above, but been following Mark on FB Angry Puma. Epic journey, tough on the vehicles but what an adventure.

It's a pipe dream journey for me, would love to do it one day. James

Some South African customers of ours who were living in London at the time returned to Cape Town a few years ago in their Land Cruisers. Am struggling to remember their names. Will have to get Barbara on the case.

Now safety/best routes etc can change. Would suggest you also contact the local 4x4/LR clubs. Local contacts are always good to have. South Africa Land Rover can be found at https://www.lroc.org.za/

We've got plans to do some big trips when the mortgage finishes. This sounds like an epic trip and we'd love to join you but it's about a year too early for us.

We were in Cape Town four years ago. We visited Boulders Bay and there was a UK 110 parked in the car park. We didn't see the owners, although the unofficial car park attendant was telling us the owners had driven down from the UK in stages. Each time finding somewhere secure to park up the Land Rover so they can fly back to the UK to go earn some more money to carry on the trip. Great idea if you do have gainful employment.
Not so sure how you find secure garaging? I suppose it is possible.
Not something I would ever attempt, but respect to anyone who has or wants to have a go.

It’s not so much about pulling a sickie, but how you would manage to go back to work and not say anything about your adventures?

I won’t grass you up if you are going to give it a go Thumbs Up

I was at Vic Falls a couple of years ago after coming up from Cape Town. There were some of these big trucks there that are used for overlanding with groups. One of them was painted up for London to Cape Town trips. I got chatting with the drivers and they reckoned all the route was safe as long as you stuck as near to the coast as possible when coming down through the dodgy countries after Mauritania.

Might be worth asking them for advice - https://www.oasisoverland.co.uk/trips/afri...frica.html

Edit to add - there is a map of the route on their website Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Did it solo, Cape Town to North Cape of Norway, was 20 years ago though!
I was away a year, but the main drive was about 6 months, we did skip through Europe however to get up to Scandinavia...

Came up through the Middle East but that's a very different place now....
