Has anyone come across a good set if crimpers which are capable of crimping the larger open barrel crimp terminals?
I have various different sets of ratchet/none ratchet crimpers which do nice work on yhe smaller (upto 2.5mm2) terminals but i have never found a set which are capable of doing the larger (4-6mm2) open barrel terminals. I always have to resort to using the semi-circular dies on on the handle side of my none ratchet crimpers which never results in a satisfactory crimp. My go-to crimp tool for larger crimps is a Tyco Roto-Crimp 600850, but you won't like the price!

Careful use of a bench vice can be your friend here, unless you want to go down the route Blackwolf suggested.

They're priced for industry, where to a great extent the cost doesn't matter.

For larger cable sizes, I bought a hydraulic crimping tool from eBay:

Thanks all,
My query relates specifically to open barrel terminals though. I have a hydraulic crimper for larger tube type terminals such as battery cables and anything for 6mm2 upwards. It is this type of terminal that I am looking for a crimper for: https://www.polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/6.3mm_Terminals.html (see the 3rd item down). I have seen some jaws that look like they will fit one of my Durite ratchet handles which claim to be able to handle 4-6mm but i can imagine the force required for the larger crimps will be excessive with short handles. I might drop an email to Polevolt over that one though Martin, it may well do the job, although i am dubious as it also does tube terminals. I use a pair of pliers. Fold one side over and then repeat. But a tool for the job would be better. 1999 Defender TD5 110

^^^ For that sort of connector, the ones in the post above are functionally identical to the ones I use (although mine came from RS Components many years ago).
For some reason I too thought you were asking about larger terminals (for 6mm cable, not for 6mm spades). |

For blade-type terminals, I too have a crimp tool essentially identical to the one linked to by ARC99 and it works perfectly. I hate those types of connectors. I have never been able to crimp them right. I always end up soldering them, only method that feels safe to me.
