Yes that's the fuel filter cover, I'd clean it off very well then take the cover off and see if the filter is tight then check the whole assembly for leaks on the pipes for the next few days. Make sure everything is clean of mud thoroughly first though as you don't want any in the fuel system. Ray

It rather looks like a fuel leak. Does the damp smell of diesel?
I would get a can of gunk or similar de-greaser, remove the fuel filter protection cover, give the whole area a good coating and then wash it away with a pressure washer or hose pipe. Don't do it on an expensive driveway as it will make a mess!! Let the area dry off so you can see any new leaks and then start the engine. You should hopefully be able to spot where it's coming from. I'm not familiar with the filter pipework on the TD5 so I don't know if the filter connections are push fit or threaded. Or there might be an air bleed screw on the top of the filter housing that has become slightly undone? |

I would have a look at doing that rear diff seal when you’re under there too from te looks of it.
