Steering Q
My 75k '05 TD5 has taken to wandering a little at 60-70. Just enough to know that it isn't quite what it used to be. Certain cambers on certain roads it really isn't true any more.
At low speeds fine.
I swapped the tyres all around, even bunged the spare on. No difference.
So I've put it on axle stands and had a wobble. No obvious this or that way slack.
At straight ahead there is no play in the steering.
But as you turn the wheel there is, until at full lock ( still only about 30 deg on a Landy..) there is at least 2" of free play in the steering wheel before it moves the wheels.
Q for the mech experts Bow down , why no free play straight ahead and heaps at full lock? And what should it be / how to fix?
And if not that, then what next? Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz
Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ...

Because of the design of the steering box, there will always be significant play at full lock. That’s why the adjustment should always be done at the straight ahead position.

Wandering is usually suspension bushes (front and rear, both can cause it) or play in one of the steering ball joints that make up the system

If youre aure the swivel bearings, wheel bearings, swivel pins, various bushes, balljoints (especially on the swan neck) and the panhard rod is tight then try adjusting the PAS box for tighter steering.
