Machine gun knocking noise from the rear!!!
Hi Guys
My 11 plate DCPU is back with Hereford LR to try and find the cause of a loud knocking noise when she is hot. The noise only seems to occur when braking between approx 12mph and 0mph. I have spoken to Cambrian they have the exact same issue with thier loaner and having picked up a 11 plate DCPU from Hereford this am thier loaner is doing the same thing! Rolling Eyes
Sounds like a common problem? They have re adjusted the handbrake so thats not the issue. Has anyone on here experienced the same noise and successfully cured it? sounds like it is coming from the rear but can't be 100%.
Cheers guys Thumbs Up

Hand Brake, yes I know the've adjusted it but probably not correctly or when it was hot.. Usually happens on longer journeys Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Even if there is no movement in the handbrake itself when applied lightly? only seem to do it after about 20 miles.

I'm thinking along the same lines Pete, Remember there was a run of oval drums a few years back. The drums would get hot and 'pick up' on the shoes.

Rob take it up the road allow it to make the noise for a bit then stop, get underneath touch the brake drum, if you smell burning skin and your fingers hurt this could be the issue. Oh do this in a safe place so you don't hurt yourself. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

My Feb 60 plate Ute was EXACTLY the same. They backed off the handbrake a couple of clicks and hey presto. Ludicrously fine tolerances. D300 HSE 110

I've had a new transmission brake drum - made no difference. Then some adjustment of the hand-brake shoes in the winter when it was clattering all the time -improved for a while, but the problem is returning (warmer weather). If there was a bit less play in the rear diff... Whistle 1953 80
