Fitting a Maggiolina to GMB-mount roof rack
I have an Esel roof rack made by GMB-mount.de.
It is a low profile rack and very similar to CargoBear roof rack. I am trying to find some fixings for my Maggiolina airlander roof tent.
Is it possible to use Cargobear racks tent mounting kit or should I use some roofbars with suitable legs?

Hi Vesku, a few questions for you.

What other use for the roof rack do you have apart from mounting the roof tent?

Can you easily lift roof tent and rack off? i.e do you have access to an electric hoist or a fork lift.

How often will you be taking roof tent on and off?

For a roof tent you only need 2 or 3 good quality roof bars and not a full rack

IF you can lift the whole rack off easily then you can drill through the tread plates and bolt roof tent direct to rack. Then lift rack and roof tent on in one.

If you want to be able to take roof tent off without taking rack off, you can use the Cargo bear tent mounting system and rivnut the bottom part of the system to the roof rack.

If there is no warranty on roof tent and you do not mind drilling through bottom of roof tent then you can bolt the roof tent directly onto rack. Rivnuts in rack, big washers inside of tent, preferably drilled through ali channel in bottom of roof tent. Might have an impact on resell value.

No simple answer, just consider carefully how, when you are going to use tent and how often on/off roof tent will be.

Hi Brendan.
I don’t know why I can’t add pictures but i have this GMB-mount-rack on the roof and I have mounted Eezi awn 270 awning on it and now trying to fit my hard-top-Maggiolina.
I used to have traditional G4 rack and it was easy to mount tent because it’s higher profile as you could fit your hands under the rack when mounting tent prackets and bolts etc.
I take tent off wintertime so it is on the roof may to november.
I cannot easily lift the tent and rack off so the rack is on the roof all the time.
So the cargobear system or similar would be nice. Thank you.

Hi Vesku, I have seen the GMB rack at Bad Kissingen.

AS far as I can see your choices are :

1) . Drill the rooftent and use rivnuts on the roof rack..

2) Drill the roofrack and insert rivnuts then fasten down the Cargo Bear tent mounting system and just bolt the roof tent on to the mating piece.

I am lucky that I have an electric hoist so can lift roof tents/racks off quite easily Thumbs Up

Thanks Brendan.
I think that GMB-mount have some mounting brackets for sale but I don’t understand their language..😊
Maybe I just drill holes and bolt the tent on it. The rack is not so difficult to remove if have to.

Yes GMB do a uni mount which according to Google translate says it is for a roof tent.

I am not sure exactly how it works.

It might be worthwhile sending Stefan at info@gmb-mount.de an email (in English) as he is fluent in English asking him for information.

GMB have a stand at the Bad Kissingen show which is in about 4 weeks time. It is worth a visit to the show if you have half a chance.
