and the fun begins.

I'm re-building the office / study this week and although the NAS has arrived this evening (you gotta love Amazon right?) I've not yet opened the box and may leave it till the furniture arrives and the office gets rebuilt Very Happy

and the fun of setting it up will begin Big Cry

/\. might be simple to set up but I'm obviously simpler Very Happy

I can up load 1 file at a time but don't seem to be able to upload numerous directories at a time?

not sure if I'm completely missing the point but I want to either duplicate the whole laptop or at least some directories?

any pointers would be much appreciated. Thumbs Up

thank you.....

oh and then I'd like to be able to access them remotely which I presume you simply do by 'logging in'?

Once you have set up your nas, you’ll need to do the following...

1. Set up a user on nas
2. Create shared folders for the user (1)
3. Using your pc, laptop connect to nas share, by addressing as \\nasname\sharename
4. User/password(1)

Copy & paste away !

but can't quite figure it out.
went into the app and created a new folder (where I can upload individual files / can't cut n paste)....

then into explorer and can't find the folder - it's still in the app (control centre)?

I'll keep going see if I can figure it out? Thumbs Up

On your pc, in windows explorer, left pane, click on your pc name, then in menu at top select map network drive and put in \\nameofnas\nasfoldername. It will ask for a user and password - these are the user and pass from the nas - bingo!

thank you very much.

I think setting up the network drive is the answer. I'll let you know how I get on.

It's amazing to see what one mans simple is to another man Laughing

damn ...been surfing the net too?

trying to map the drive but when I opt the 'browse' button to select the folder there's no folders to choose?

I can see the drive in windows explorer which is 'namefamily'. do I need to put a '(Z)' or some other drive letter at the end?

anyone in the area wanna come earn themselves a cuppa tea and some chocolate biscuits?

wow. made some progress. I had to turn a tick box for sharing off, back on and a restart ......and hey presto I've managed to map the drive.

Problem now is access. it's asking for my password but it doesn't want to accept it?

It's basically asking you to authenticate access to the share you set up on the NAS, so whatever permissions and user(s) you assigned access to on the NAS will be the user/password to use..

on your PC you may need to select "use another account", and use the NAS user name admin and the NAS admin password

wow...made it. there were some tick boxes relating to the type of password including upper / lower case sensitive which I think was the obstacle. Thumbs Up

transferred files last night and guess what - it worked.

only now it doesn't!

I think it's related to fixing the IP address so a few more days I might have it fixed ?

Thumbs Up

I think I've got my laptop sorted with the NAS but can't seem to get other laptops on. got one other laptop on there no problem - was able to map the drive no probs.

another laptop can't for love n money. both are windows 10 but it just won't find it on the network - period.?
