Finland 1996 Defender 90 300 Tdi CSW Coniston Green
Fulcrum Bracket & Ball Joint DA1129 change
Here are some posting how people have changed this part relatively easy.
I just removed mine as the rubber boot was torn and it’s a no-no in our
yearly car check, like you MoT. My Defender is a 1996 300Tdi 90 that has seen a lot
of off-road so the chassis look very rusty, just replaced the rear member.

The big castellation 30mm nut was tight, I needed an about 1m extension to get it loose,
but the the 2 pcs 1/2” x 6-1/2” UNF bolt was corroded solid in the bracket. I had to cut all 4
corners with an angle grinder to cut the bolts. Even the it was quite a task to remove the cut bolts.
I had an impact wrench and only manged to some what destroy a quality 19mm 1/2” socket.
Did not have an impact wrench socket.

Take this as a warning that it can be quite a task to remove it, it took me over 5h to get
it of the car. Grinding was not so easy as my a-grinder use the small disks. Installation is
not difficult and will not take long. Torq for 30 and 1/2” UNF is 176Nm,

Similar job was to change the suspension arms in Disco 4, the bolts corrode solid in the bushings
and only way to remove them is with a reciprocating saw and plenty of good blades, bolts are
very hard. Brgds,

Juha
