If they are painted properly i would coat the surface with dinitrol and forget as they will outlast you! They only rust because they are not painted underneath!

Yeah I have considered this too. Sure it will be a fine enough option.
Thanks for the reply. Rod |

just done mine. wouldnt bother trying any sealant. i painted the body before fitting, and then used a closed cell foam between the capping and body.

Do you not think that the CCF will collect moisture over time ..obviously you are attaching a ferrous metal capping to ali sheet so you need to avoid moisture between the surfaces to stop bi metal corrosion ....and where the rivets join the two ...a good coat of paint on both surfaces should be enough but a dinotrol coat or a ceramec moly coat should prevent future corrosion ...its the moisture you need to prevent .

Yeah I did wonder that, but ended up using the foam which was supplied with the capping.
All my capping are now galv and I painted the body under capping with rust buster epoxy one to one. It’s a fantastic coating for this. For the rear capping they have been sealed on application with sikaflex as well. The unpainted body directly attached to unpainted non galv body capping lasted near 20 years and they weren’t even completely corroded. I’m hoping my upgrade will last a bit longer ! |
