If you look through the pictures on that set some are photoshopped and others aren't so you can see the full size and the "smaller" version Rolling Eyes Ray

The full size and smaller versions are two different vehicles with different number plates. The short one is VK67 EWX and the long one is VU67 ZWA. Darren

No, it's just the way the bodyshop has put the frame together. That's not the body of the new Defender, obviously, they are just using pieces of steel or aluminium. I remember them using a bodged Austin Maestro van once. If you look at all nine pics in the article, you can see the same overlap.

Based on those photos I can't say I'm sure either way. If it is real, it will be a dodgy cut & shut for testing, and the camo vinyl they put on it will cover almost any metalworking sins!

Edit:

I'm leaning towards real. What current land rover has a towball plate like that? Looks like a proper 4 bolt, not a socket to receive something. On both the short and long versions fuel filler looks like it's been grafted on with a gate hinge too.

I’m inclined to think that this is real for a variety of reasons:

1. It’s filmed around Gaydon - one of the signs relates to the A4100 which leads directly into Gaydon

2. There is an unmarked vehicle in front of one of the camouflaged vehicles, bearing an OE prefix number plate - typically, these are found on LR Management / own-use cars

3. The tyres have been marked up as FR / RR etc - this would suggest that the cars have had other tyres fitted at some stage and they need to ensure wheel sets are reinstalled in the original positions for continutiy of testing.

4. Our daughter has just spent 15 months inside Gaydon and when I shared the photos with her, I got a very guarded, “it’s a short RRS, innit...?” Too much silence can be damning...

I’m pretty anxious to see the real thing - she’s already told me ‘you’ll like it...’ but I’m just about to come out of the D4 Commercial and into a bloody Volvo as there’s nothing ready to kee me mobile AND also keep the tax bill down and am therefore pinning my hopes on L663

Well I've waited long enough, and I can't see this coming out in 2018. If there was a picture of the real thing, then I might wait, but being as there isn't, and being as I think it's going to be post-£35,000 (despite LR saying the DC100 was £20,000 - £25,000) then that's enough for me, I'm afraid. If negotiations go well tomorrow then I'm ordering a Suzuki Jimny. 2/3rds the size of a Defender, I know, but everyone seems to love them and I'm getting quite a good deal on a 4 year old one before the new one comes out in 2018 - which I shall order in due time. Now left.

As What puddle? says, that's just where they've butchered the body to make it fit the wheelbase.

This is a picture of a Discovery Sport mule under a much modified Evoke body. This one involved cutting the rear tailgate and floor out of a production body, welding in a new floor and rear quarter extension panels and then sticking the tailgate back on, which resulted in a mismatched roof line with noticeable bump at the join:
