Oil pressure
I know the Rover V8 in its Land Rover applications has quite low oil pressure, somewhere around 15psi. But there is a small modification which can be made to the pressure relief valve in the pump which gives better oil pressure. If you fit the spring from an MGB in the relief valve, the oil pressure doubles. Been there, done that etc.
The question is this, why does the engine have higher oil pressure in the MG installation than it does in the Land Rover?

I for one do not know the answer?

But I wonder if the MG has a bigger remote oil cooler, or maybe a far away remote oil filter?
Can't see why they would up the pressure just for the sake of it?

Not unless it's a speed/power thing... 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

If I recall correctly, didn't the MGB V8 have a remote oil filter.

The OEM MGB adaptor plate with the remote oil filter inlet & outlet ports that replaced the standard oil filter housing was an expensive must have when fitting a V8 into an 80" . The standard V8 engine mounted oil filter hit the front axle case.
Eventually a non OEM alternative became available machined from a solid piece of ali. It wasn't as pretty as the cast alloy OEM part, but it did the job.

Perhaps the MGB had higher oil pressure to help raise the oil to the filter which I guess was mounted high up on the inner wing somewhere. Then again that may not be the reason at all !!!

Funny enough I was only reading about the MGB Spring mod on the V8 forum last night,

The V8 I'm fitting at the moment had 25psi on tick over, which I didn't think was that bad for a 1987 SD1 engine!
I had to fit a remote oil filter for the filter/diff problem.
This has dropped the pressure to 15psi which is still within limits.

I remember the V8 I fitted to my old 109 series 3, to overcome the filter problem then, (I couldn't afford a remote kit) I used the oil pump housing from a 101 FC
As these had a modified filter housing, that turned the filter to the side,
That was early 90s when there were plenty about being broken for spares!

I might look into getting the spring and play about with it over the Christmas break.

Now you mention it, I remember the 101 trick.

Trouble was, it was 1980 when I "butchered" my near original 49 80" Crying or Very sad and at that time 101 parts were like hen's teeth to get hold of.

I remember how difficult it was for John Wright (of Jake Wright Land Rovers) to get hold of a 101 bell housing for his AWDC rally vehicle . The 101 bell hosing was much shorter than the regular Range Rover bell housing, which meant he could build a shorter wheelbase vehicle without propshaft angle issues.

In the days when I ran my 80" with the V8, I was using cheap scrapyard engines out of Rover P5's and P6's. Most had high mileage and the oil pressure was always a worry. I often put a couple of washers behind the standard pressure relief spring, in the hope that it would boost the pressure a little. I think matters were made worse because I had one of those combined Smiths (or was it CAV) water temp and oil pressure gauges in the little 80" dashboard pod, and the oil pressure range went up to something like 100 PSI. So most of the time the needle barely moved!!! At least the oil pressure warning light switch was the right one for the engine.
