Actually come to think of it, this is the second time in her life with me that she has had a taxi back to a indy and the first one was no clutch as well Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

It is but it's better for someone to get them on the road again, rather than just being in a shed doing nothing Wink

yeah, he is trying to find out what is the best chassis to go for, its also looking at a replacement bulkhead. Its getting very scabby and holes have started appear near the bottom of the door. Shocked Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

So earlier this year i managed to get another bonnet for Millie, not mint condition but in good condition and the original right colour for her, fitted

The blue bonnet needs some holes filled as when i bought her many years ago she had the fittings for a spare wheel to be mounted, bonnet off Millie and the checker plate off as well

Holes that need to be filled in which at the moment let water in the engine bay, luckily i have a very good metal man that will do all this for me

On the under side the original colour

there is just one bit of rust that needs attention which he will do

so i'm just waiting for a call to say it's all done Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

If my memory serves me well, where you see the rusting through the frame, there is a stiffener plate spot welded inside the frame. I think can just see the spot welds in your pictures.
Its kind of classical LandRover engineering, with built in moisture traps Big Cry I guess it makes for cheaper tooling as there are other ways to increase stiffness.

PS. It is very easy to remove the bonnet skin from the frame Whistle
Galvanizing the frame will make it last for a very long time, but understand it may be uneconomical in the UK… given the cheap prices of 2nd hand parts and expensive hot dipping charge!!

Ahh, and when I re glued the skin to the frame it really transformed the feel of the bonnet. I had forgotten that it could be rattleless Rolling with laughter 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
