STRATA FLORIDA HELP
Hi all,

I was planning to do the greenlane around the side of the clearwen dam in elan valley and noticed its very close to strata florida..can u get to it via the north gate at the reservoir and i understand you need permission to go through the top gate (whos best to contact?)
Also ive never done technical lanes in wales before so if im not confident on strata florida..can i turn round on it and come back or is it a 1 way lane only??

Many thanks
Arran

Yes you can drive up the lane by Claerwen and go through the gate as long as you obtain permision from the Elan Valley Trust, phone the office and talk to them. There are plenty of places to turn round on Strata but there is no need, take your time and just enjoy the lane. The only word of caution I would say is to not attempt Strata Florida on your own, it is a long lane, phone signal is very poor and if the unthinkable should happen then it's a long walk. Thumbs Up

We are planning a trip as well, is it likely to be granted permission? What’s the best way to go about it?

Thanks,

Tom

In the past I've phoned up the office and spoken to the manager a couple of weeks in advance of any trip I've sorted. They'll welcome details of what day you are planning on and what sort of time, it's not necessarily down to the exact hour more along the lines of probably mid morning or perhaps after lunch type of timings. They would prefer to know how many vehicles and registration numbers of those vehicles, this is more for peace of mind for the Wardens that are on the lookout for people trespassing off public routes along with the tenant farmers who have to live and work there. By asking for permission first you will be a lot more welcome than those who think it is their God given right to go where they please.
I have no problem with having to ask for permission, I feel that it is common courtesy, yes you can be up there in the Elan Valley and never see any Wardens and feel that no-one would notice or mind you just popping through the gate but if everyone did that then it wouldn't be long before no-one could drive through, permission or not Thumbs Up

I've just Google mapped the route between the two points and it comes up as around 8½ miles and just over ½ hour travelling time which isn't too far out but with the width of the roads in the area I'd be more on the 40 minutes at least Thumbs Up

Would thr gate normally be locked then and they unlock it for ppl that have asked permission?

I've never seen the gate locked but it wouldn't take much abuse of privilidges to get a lock put on it.

As you go through the north gate at clearwen reservoir....is that greenlane still up just over the bridge on the right?
Or is there any others off that part?

Thanks again

Strata lane for ref allow 2hrs, and give it a miss if the water is over the road on the crossings prior at the south end for others approaching from there, for your self give it a miss if heavy rain for day or more in 48hrs prior to your trip. Current and depth can give probs.

They like vehicle details for permission Inc ben. Gate not locked, it's gravel track all the way. Cheers
