Wolf wheels - ‘performance’ downsides..?
Hi all, I picked up a set of genuine Wolf wheels at the LRM Malvern show last October which I finally got round to painting a limestone and am now ready to fit. They will be going on my 2012 110 station wagon which currently has a set of Boost alloys.

As I’ve read over and over, the Wolf wheels are significantly heavier than the boost alloys. What differences have others noticed when switching from Boosts to Wolfs? Is there a noticeable deterioration in ride, or steering feel and braking for example? Depending on the source, Wolfs seem to be quotes as about 3 to 4 kg heavier per corner. Some people say they weigh as much as 17 kg, whilst Boosts seem to weigh around 13 to 14 kg. This seems like a significant increase in unsprung weight. Obviously I love the Wolf look, but I’d like to hear if anyone else has any regrets from making the switch? I’ve spend quite a bit of cash getting the ride on my 110 more comfortable and the steering tight as it should be from the factory so don’t want to undo my efforts so far!

Are there any other downsides I should be aware of (apart from the need to change the wheel nuts and the length of the wheel bolts) that I should be aware of?

Also - the Wolf copies all seem to have a lower load rating. Is this because they are made of thinner steel and are therefore lighter than the genuine Wolfs?

Cheers all!

If those weights are true, that's a total of 16kg on a vehicle that already has about 200kg in unsprung weight and an unloaded weight of about 2000kg. You are not going to notice 4kg a corner on steering/braking/ride anywhere near as much as you will notice the type of tyre you put on them.

With regards to the ratings on gen. vs aftermarket, yes, but I only know of one vehicle that even begins to challenge the 2200kg-a-corner and that thing makes the earth slightly flatter wherever it goes, consider carefully whether you'll really be getting anywhere near that. 1500kg goes a long way for most people, which is why Blindos (also 1500) were put on WMIKs without issue. One life - get one.

A good workout this AM with the Wolf very kindly donating its wheels to the daily Td5.
Td5 had Cooper ST’s on with the Wolf on Goodyear MT/R’s.
If I prefer those on the Td5 I’ll get my spare Wolf wheels refurbed for them Thumbs Up
