Great place to camp, and to enjoy and an even better place for your children.

Sand dunes, lots of open spaces full of wild life. Visited regular with my children when they were younger and I really believe they benefited from Shell Island, on the west beach it benefits from the north shore drift, so you never know what you may find by the shore.

Do not get involved on the politics of the island such as the access available across the Llanbedr Airfield, which has been owned by the Welsh Government for more than 50 years and is about to change .
The new tenant of the Llanbedr Airfield, Snowdonia Aerospace LLP, has withdrawn guaranteed 24-hour emergency services access to Shell Island. The owners just want money shame on them and not to keep the enjoyment of family’s as Shell Island has been doing for years.

Have a great time and show us some more photos Thumbs Up For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

A bit of rain mixed with thunder and lightning. So took shelter in the ice cream shop(rhubarb crumble for me and orange marmalade & honeycomb caramel for Mrs Excossack)
More LR spotting. A 2008 Defender LHD but didnt sound like a td5. Maybe ROW 300tdi?)

You are correct, the Rhinog mountains part of the Snowdonia range lie at the back of Shell Island . For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Looking good. We'll be there soon with the 110, Sankey comms trailer and several Oztents Very Happy

Any thoughts on the "best" part of the site? Ideally want space (i.e. distant neighbours), beach proximity and option to have a campfire...

We are on the right-hand side of the site as you come up the hill from reception.
Or on the field after the 2nd of toilets on the main road. There is a rough slipway/path at the top that goes down to the beach below.

Just having a drive around the site and you can get down to the sand dunes.

Also there are little secluded areas where you can camp (only room for a few tents)

The comms trailer, is that a functioning one ? I.e maybe amateur radio? 1999 Defender TD5 110

A long way from us now, but we stayed at Llandanwg in the sixties. I remember the old stone Church almost buried in the Sand (now recovered I believe), and always having an interest in Aircraft I remember an island that I could see from which aircraft were continually taking off & landing. At the time I didn't know what was there, but I've since discovered that at the time it was an active RAF base! Happy memories.

Now high tide on the Island. Cars are queuing to get on, some took the option to wade through. You can just see the rocks that mark the roadway.
