I would imagine any window guard that doesn't involve fixing it to the metal work wouldn't be anymore secure than the original windows. If you don't use the 3rd row seats you could fit the sides from a USW and do away with the glass in the boot completely? Much more secure and it doesn't rattle!
I never really see the issue with drilling Defender bodies, you can always just plug the hole with a pop rivet at a later date and paint the head. Only a Defender expert would know it wasn't original, as they have exposed rivets and spot welds on them anyway. ![]() The only way to fit the larger tail gate glass is to replace the complete rear door and door inerds with the earlier type. They used to crack and rot like mad, so you'd just be down grading the rear door. |

The third row of seats very rarely get used but I wouldn't want them removing / converting in to a USW just so I have the flexibility when required.
Removing the hesitation of drilling the body, what are peoples thoughts on the MSS vs Mantec options? |

I have the MSS products for the rear quarter windows.
They are well made and finished. Instructions with them were good. You need to drill holes in body but once installed this is hidden by the station wagon interior mouldings. I have not got the rear door one. I have a later steel door but with no high level brake light so I did not find one that did both. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

you could still leave the seats in situ, any rear passengers wouldn't have windows obviously, but bearing in mind the alternative is putting them in a cage with rattles and draughts. |
