you get what you pay for - I used Castrol Gold Edge turbo diesel 5-30 and genuine filters (both) - worked for me.

I will agree to a point, but there is a degree of paying for the brand name too. Not saying that genuine isnt the best, just other products may be nearly as good but a fraction of the cost. Its a bit like snap on tools, you pay a lot just for it to say snap on on it and there are tools to the same quality for less money.

Have a look at the oil bible for info about types of oil and the differences.

The issue is the ratings they achieve i.e A1/B2 etc not the marketing blurb on the tin.

I believe you don't need to pay high prices to get good oil but check the specs and look for API logo (American petroleum Institute) as a guarantee the oil has reached the standard specified.

I guess it's a bit like paying for branded medicines vs own brand, very often they are the same thing.
