Defender Puma 2.4 110 2007 Throttle overrun
Hello

Recently been towing with diff lock and low ratio engaged. When I reselected Hi and turned off diff lock there seems to be a problem with the throttle. When changing gear, I release the accelerator and dip the clutch but the engine revs increase by 500 revs or so then drop to normal tick over. It happens between every gear, hot or cold engine. I have tried the obvious like going through the diff lock and Hi Lo selections a few times but to no avail. It may be a coincidence that I was using the diff and lo options, it is very, very wet here. Not just rain but the atmosphere is always damp.


Anybody got any ideas??

Check your brake lights, if they aren't working check your fuses as a blown fuse for the brake lights can can cause this seems to be a pretty common issue and most people have this happen just after using the towing electrics Thumbs Up

Thanks all. Brake light fuse was blown. All ok now. Thumbs Up Discos are good…..Defenders are great!

I now try to understand what is the "clutch switch"

Failed clutch switch.
I've disabled mine completely, better drive without it and a better driver input.

However, it isn't just a case of unplugging it on a Puma. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

Custom90steve, did you bridge the two wires? I am thinking of installing a "scotch lock" on these two wires will create the solution.

Yes. Bridged.

You could use your method but if you buy the connector and bridge it like that it'll be fully waterproofed and the harness left in-tact.
The connectors are only around £6, but maybe a little more fir you in France?

I used a male and female, one to blank and seal the clutch switch socket. (Use sealed the wire entries at the rear.)
And bridged with wire loop the harness plug and tied it away nicely.

Throttle has a much better response, no MIL or DTC's.

I want to say thank you again for this tip!
The connectors arrived with me yesterday and I do the technique.
The problem of the revs is completely gone now and it is much better driving experience!
I recommend all people with this system do this fix.
