Portable bbq & fire pit?
I'm on the lookout for a new bbq. Something I can pack into a bag and stow in the back of the 90 without it taking up too much space or making a mess.
It needs to be far enough up off the ground not to make any damage.
It can't be an IKEA style jobby you have to assemble a million pieces everytime.

I think the closest thing I've seen is the bush pig but I wanted to see if there are any other alternatives out there?

Son of Hiabchi are great BBQs, they come with a "snuff out bag"

I have the Braai which is a super suitcase style BBQ/campfire

I wish it came with a snuf bag but usually store it in one of the wolf style boxes.

Ooooh, I really like the Boab Braai. And you can get a bag for it - look under accessories https://www.boab.biz/acatalog/BOAB-ULTIMAT....html#a974

That's the one to beat! Very Happy

Ahh thats new that bag. FYI not a snuff out bag so do not stick a hot braai in it. The habachi one can.

I have one of these, quite expensive but runs off a small cartridge and cooks excellent Sirloin steaks.
I shopped about and got mine a bit cheaper.

I made my own using an ammo box unfortunately I don't have any pictures on me.
It has perforated steel plate about an inch off the bottom of the box and I found a grill in B+Q. I made some legs attatched with wingnuts which hold it 18" off the ground which satisfies most campsites.
When we finish cooking we take the grill off and put sticks/ driftwood on. When we have finished for the evening close the lid to damp it down and prevent sparks.
The whole thing is painted with black heat resistant paint at the start of each season and the boxes seem to last about 6 - 7 years before they need replacing.

We were give a Bodum BBQ which is quite good but doesn't really pack down (lid just clamps on) so is quite bulky to transport. But an option for under £40.

I would have thought the Minimax Big Green Egg would be a good one to take out in the Landy.

Ive been thinking about making my own for a while. I have plenty of old gas bottles but what's holding me back is the lack of a good design and bag for it. Still somewhat interested in making my own Very Happy
As I've only a 90, packed size is a major consideration.

Gas grill is out of the question, I need a fire for the night, so something I can throw logs on.

We use one of these which works well and takes up very little space when folded. The stainless sheet is fairly thin and warps a bit when hot but doesn't create any problems.

I have a mild steel version of the one Intercept posted. I like it a lot except it's gone rusty. I'll get the stainless one next. If you line it with aluminium foil prior to putting the charcoal in it is very easy to keep out too. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I just brought a portable one from b&q for £20 and have used it every night for the last week as BBQ for 4 and a fire pit after

Highly recommend it and all packs away with just 4 wing nuts to undo and even comes with a set of straps ideal best I've had for camping 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)
