I suppose the first question i'd ask is do you put the Defender in and out of the garage every day or is it just used occasionally and laid up for long periods?

If it's the latter you could always let the tyres down each time.

Another option could be lowered springs.
Suitable if you don't go far of the blacktop on weekend/holiday trips Cheers,
