That's just a matter of detail and is hardly insurmountable. I'm impressed by your faith in the factory coating though. Darren

The factory coating isnt bad but its not very UV stable, which is the main reason cross members degrade i think.

On mine the chassis is still like new after 6 years, but the coating on the rear cross member was just about done.

Drilling into any paint is going to weaken it's protection, but so long as you treat the newly drilled holes with, zinc primer, dinitrol buzweld or what ever it shouldnt be an issue.

My last 2 new defenders ive treated the cross member from new with a clear wax, this one isnt old enough - but it kept the last one in good shape for 3yrs Mike
