Sourcing new boots for the Defender
I'm thinking I'll get the LR some new boots - probably 265x75x16 BFG AT.

I'll take the opportunity to swap the old avonmasters on my Sankey with my current GG TRs so I'm running more compatible tyres and take the opportunity to get an extra spare.

I figured I'd get
5 x BFG for the 110 (which I'll fit to my current boost alloys);
3 x black modulars (which I'll mount the GGs on for the trailer + an extra spare)

Q1) do you recommend anywhere particular to buy the above? I was thinking of going to Silverline in Warwick - are they any good?

Q2) I notice that some places do combinations of tyres and wheels. Do you reckon I should just get 4x BFG on black modulars and the add a 5th? Any experience of which might be cheaper (obviously I'll phone up for a price).

Q3) what do you think the chances are of me being upsold to a set of Blindo wheels Thumbs Up One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

when i changes my tyres i did quite a lot of research on prices etc. i then went ot my local Indie and asked for a price fully fitted and balanced etc and told them the prices i was looking for. i do try and support my local Indie so worth the effort.

they offered a goof price and used a well known mobile fitter that's used to balancing big landy tyres.

result - good price, good service, very well balanced tyres = happy customer Thumbs Up BM52

Silverline isnt too far away from me - the few times ive used them they are OK - nothing better nothing worse...very helpful to a friend when the supplied nuts as part of a wheel package - Censored nuts that rusted (2 sets worth!

I would more than likely use them, depending on price and they can be hit and miss...the owner used to live round the corner until we moved house! Mike

Thanks for the prompt replies. I'll give them a ring later today.

My wife's wondering what to get me for my Birthday next week so "a new pair of boots" seems reasonable Whistle One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Yep I know - was just for comparison. No idea what RCP would be for the 'inadequate in other departments' 265's Thumbs Up Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

alantd, just to throw this into the mix:

You are looking at 5x265s and 3x235. Have you considered doing what I and a couple of others on here have done. Go for 7x265 and 2 modulars.... that way you only need one spare that will fit both your Landy and your trailer- it might cost you a little more on rubber but you will also have a full set of 5 235 tires to sell on at the end

Hey Glyn.

I thought about that but I figure my GGs won't be worth that much. They've done 20k and although they probably have another 20k left in them I won't get much for them. For the trailer, however, they'd be perfect.

Ideally I'd have all wheels the same width so they're all interchangeable but I was figuring it would be much more expensive (and way over spec for what I really need). At least they'd all be the same diameter Very Happy

I think the best thing is for me to give the guys a ring and get a price. I'll get them to price up both options Thumbs Up

Cheers all

Can I take it that you're a 235 man yourself?

I thought about sticking with 235 (better cut through and they wouldn't stick out the side of the Sankey so much) but given that I don't REALLY need to change my GGs if I'm honest, it didn't feel different enough for £1000.

As my wife says, my Defender is my mistress: I lavish it with gifts, daydream about spending time time with it and feel guilty when I prioritise it over my family.

I'm replacing the tyres because it's on my roadmap of steady improvement. I've never been completely stuck anywhere with my GG TRs and certainly nothing that a set of tracmats or a hand winch couldn't get me going again.

I do need to replace the trailer tyres and that's a spur to action but if I'm going to spend 1k, I figured I might as well try something a bit different. Very Happy One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

235's are for jokey wheels and 265's are clearly poofs tyres. Real men use 305's Whistle
