2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Orkney Grey

Series Alternator conversion kit?

Anyone know anything about this conversion? buddy in USA trying to find this bracket (not sure whether he wants the whole kit if there is one) for a 1980 series 111 Santana 2.25 diesel land rover, this part is sold out in the USA apparently.

I've emailled back for more infer re what he wants, but for the time being and ideas if such a conversion kit is available here or is it just a USA thing.

2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Montalcino Red

The supplier have relabelled all the parts to their own scheme, however all the parts except the alternator plug have LR part numbers:

If it's the main mounting bracket, then it's a standard LR part - common to the diesel and petrol. It's pricey new (£170+VAT)

However, the 4 cylinder 90/110/Defender also used the ETC4357 bracket right up to and including the 200 Tdi which should make one easier to find

There are a couple of Series items on eBay at the moment:

There are earlier and later variations (not sure what the eBay ones are - Series III engine suffix C is the change point). All it does seems to change is the thread used for the longest bracket mounting bolt [aka RND251].

Early it's 5/16" UNF, later (as used in this kit) it's M8 - Defender will be later type too.

The early bracket is 574855 instead of ETC4357, and the early bolt is BH605261L (BOLT 5/16" UNF X 3 1/4") instead of BH108161L (BOLT M8 x 75mm).

The full descriptions should help you find generic replacement bolts instead of genuine parts if you want.

It was never easy to find that bracket even in the UK , and is probably harder now. I have done several such conversions over the years, and used to try to keep a couple of the brackets 'in stock'; sadly they're all long gone.

It is however quite possible to fabricate a bracket to suit.

Thanks for that extensive information Martin, that might make it a bit easier for him to find what he wants as long as someone has one available.

Basically, any alternator-equipped 4 cylinder diesel or petrol up to and including a 200 Tdi will have the correct bracket.

Suddenly scrap engines are worth a lot more!
