Yeah, I would expect so too, but there seems to be no such thing and my AC was working fine before I removed the under-dash facia and evaporator??? Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

Ok, just to be complete: I found out there is an O-ring on the pipes that connect from the engine bay, see attached (crappy) picture.

Replace the Oring for a new one with drop of PAG oil (oil for AC internals). Without this you are in risk of leak. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo
