I can't make my mind up whether to go for the latest Speaker or Trucklight.....Anyone got any opinions?

I have Speaker Evo 2's and really like them. I'll admit that I primarily bought them for the looks, which I accept isn't a great basis for buying headlights. I did also read many reviews as well as some good side-by-side reviews on YouTube, which confirmed my choice. I would say that dipped beam is a little disappointing, but that may be just because the main beam is so strong, the comparison makes dipped seem weaker than it really is. I'm also comparing to cornering xenons on the Golf, which are excellent. I would say the Speakers are very close to the performance of the xenons, with the xenons just edging it mainly because of their dynamic cornering function.
One downside of the Speakers is that in fog the beam pattern is so bright and so crisp that it looks like a laser beam extending in front of the vehicle, which is pretty distracting. I also get flashed a lot by oncoming drivers in fog, which I think is a result of the same thing. I have had it on an MOT beam alignment rig and they are aligned correctly. Don't get flashed by other drivers under normal conditions, well very occasionally but just out that down to them being bright. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green |

I went for Flat Dog Angel eyes as a more economical but still good quality E marked light. Been more than happy with them.

I have the Speaker Evo 2 as well. Extremely happy with them. The DRL is very attractive I think. The illumination at night, both for city and dark country lanes is phenomenal. The high beam is amazing on a black night. Highly recommended.

I have just recently fitted the speaker evo 2 headlights after a lot of research and I am very happy with them. I think you can read a lot of recommendations here with the pros and cons either way on the favourites people have chosen for their Defender . Budget may well pay a part in your selection process, it's very much a personal choice and I am sure we all have a favourite namely the one we each fitted. Hopefully what will help in your selection will be if anyone has had a problem with the model they have selected and that may sway your choice. Good luck in making a choice, whatever you choose anything will be better than the original headlights

Black Evo IIs with DRLs. I love the dark sinister look, and they work well, throwing a clean white light further than the Crystals/ Nightbreaker combination could manage, The beam patten is somewhat edgy, and takes a little getting used to.
The modern white LED light matches the signal lamps, and the black headlamps suit the black details on Indus silver. If you just want more light, and would like to keep the classic look, dont underestimate Crystals/Nightbreakers and a relay harness. Bang for the buck, still an excellent solution. Hi Dave, with a question like yours you will not get a consensus of opinion on this type of question.
Some things to consider budget, appearance, light output, IP rating, reputation etc (those points are not in any particular order) Now most people on here are aware we sell gear including LED headlights so I might be accused of being biased. 1) Budget down to you 2) Appearance, personal taste, personally I do not like halo drl's in headlights 3) light output, preferably find figures which are measured light output, 2nd choice is effective lumens. Lights which only give one figure for light output is what is know as raw lumens which is a theoretical maximum output if everything is operating perfectly. 4) IP rating? IP69K is the best you can get, IP67 is the minimal you need. If IP rating not given, assume the worst. 5) Reputation? Enough said We have run J W Speaker, Noldens and Vision X in our vehicles. For light output I prefer the Noldens and Vision X over the JW Speaker and I think the Vision X have the edge over the Noldens. Having said that I do not like the halo drl off the Vision X The Noldens were fitted into the last Defenders so are OEM. I prefer the 'cleaner' appearance of the Noldens. Noldens andTrucklite have the highest IP rating of IP69K whereas the Speakers and Vision X are IP67 We are currently running 3 of our Defenders with Noldens and one with Vision X Brendan |

Agree with Wildcard's comment above entirely. If you're just running standard headlights at the moment, upgrading to crystals with a high-end halogen bulb (e.g. Nightbreaker Plus) makes a big difference. I would even go as far to say that the difference between standard and crystals is bigger than the difference between crystals and Evo 2's. so if you purely want better lights, I'd seriously consider going down this route which is massively cheaper than shelling out on LED headlights. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

I was just wondering if the fuel savings would be at all significant, so here are some maths...
LED headlights are about half the power of incandescent ones, so you're saving something like 60W total. I'm surprised they're using as much as that given torch performance but there you go... So if you do 12k miles a year of which half is headlights on and at an average speed of 30MPH (because average speeds tend to work out in that region), that's 200 hours of headlight use a year. That works out to 12kWh electricity saving. IC engines are about 1/3rd efficient converting fuel in to round and round, then you've got all the other inefficiencies of the system so that works out to about 1/4 total (guesstimation). That means we save about 50kWh of diesel per year by changing the lights, or about 5l. So yes, by switching over to LED headlamps you can reduce your fuel bill by a few quid each year
