What was that then?
Sat in a queue on the way home from work today (in the Citreon Embarassed ) and a very nice CSW went past and pulled up at the lights. It had a private plate on it so what was it a TD5 or a TDCi?

I usually tell by the simple bonnet bulge but it had its back to me. So how many seats in the back? It was dark so that was a no go Rolling Eyes .

That has brought me to a (very sad) question. How can you tell the difference between a Puma and the older Landy's?

1) Bonnet Buldge
2) Seats sidways in older one and forward facing in the puma
3) fake vents in the front (but I guess you'd have noticed the bonnet by then!)
4) Any more ?

Do you mean the ones on the headlamp surrounds?...... Td5 had them too.

Bit hit or miss but the Tdi/ Td5 had a sticker/badge behind the front wheel arch stating it is Tdi/Td5 where the TDCi has nothing.

By the Defender badge on the rear off side. The Puma's badge is onderlined. Others aren't i think.

By the rustiness of the rear x member!

By the four plates with two bolts in each that connect the rear x member to the body - on the Puma they're on the outside, others the inside or vida versa? Can't remember, it's Friday, i'm on my second bottle of Cotes du Rhone!

By the bulge of the vents on the dash if you can catch a glance inside.

By the number of rivets on each side - Puma 17, Td5 16. (Joking Whistle )

If moving at the time of the spot open your window and listen, if its a Puma you will hear the wining of the diff.

If stationary at lights etc, if its Puma you will hear the clutch rattling. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

No, I'm guessing fake air vents under the windscreen - the one thing I really miss! Peter

I was thinking of the fake vents under the windscreen. I was expecting the miss those but I can't really sy that I do.

I guess the Puma would be the one of the AA recovery truck then?

I played 'spot the difference' when I first got the puma with my 1986 90 and found the mirrors even had the same serial number of them!

They are not fake vents under the screen. I think I was told that the two embossed rectangular panels are there to retain strength in the bulk head. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

the only way to spot the differance between all models tdi,td5 tdci is to check the tax disc if it is not a commercial,a tdci will pay £400 plus atdi and td5 will pay £220

If you are that close you can look through the window, and see the difference.

The difference behind Tdi to Td5 are easy from behind due to the exhaust change, and even the fog/reverse light lights are an indicator (but later Tdi's also had the round ones)

But the difference Td5 to Tdci from behind......................

No can't think of any

Andy
