Chile 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
Brake pads duration
Hi there

I just leave my Defender in the dealer for a oil change and some minor details to be fixed (under guarantee). one of those things was the brake test that ligths randomly and disappears in the same way.

My dealer aware me that could be necessary to change the brake pads. The car have 25.000 km (15.500 mi)
I thought is that is quite early for a change: In my other cars we made the change at 50.000 km. but I dont have experiences with the Defender.

Any experience about the duration of the brake pads to see if I am in the range?

Thanks in advance Eduardo

Its vary hard to predict i suppose it would be fair to say 12k on pads as you could have done heavy offroading and TC could have worn them down - very hard one to call thought

(PS thanks for the sump info done to day whilst in for a service) Mike

Thanks mse,

I know that is very hard to predict the duration of the pads. In fact, my problem is the confidence with the dealer Confused and not with the duration of the pads itself. For this reason I like to have a range of duration to see if I'm in the normal range.

By the way, I don't have TC and mainly the car is used in the city (90% of the time) with some off-road during the weekends and vacations.

Good for the sump!!, its not funny to be in the middle of nowhere without oil in the motor.

Regards Eduardo

Well for city driving and no TC i would say you should get a significant increase - this is my first LR for ages with STD brakes as i usually fit EBC however, i seem to recall 20-30k out of them on a disco.

Re sump - Your right and the dealer was fantastic. Mike

Ive done 23.5k on the original pads! Razz Service soon so I'll tell them to check out the pads and let me know how much is left on them?

Finally was the sensor of the handbrake that was misplaced.
The brake pads are in a pretty good conditions and may last at least 20.000 km more Mr. Green

Thanks to everyone! Eduardo

I find anything from 10000 to 40000 miles did get 45000 out of one set on a td5 90 4 years old with on and off road driving know that was good.

If you doing lots of off road driving in mud can be changing rear pads every 2 weeks Exclamation

Its all down to what sort of job you do with your vehicle and how often you wash out the rear brakes after being in mud Exclamation As the mud works as a grinding paste Exclamation
