Scotland 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Baltic Blue
Got the little blighters off, then proceeded to drop, not one but two M8 nuts into parts unseen down the back of the dash attempting to tighten up the replacement washer jet. Screwfix first thing. What a palaver. Should’ve just put up with the woeful trickle of water the original reluctantly deigned to skoosh vaguely in the windscreens direction.

It’s a difficult bloomin spot I know!
It would ha e been useful to have been able to get a spanner in there without removing the bracket but you can’t.
If you put you hand up under the lower dash area where you have carpet or matting. Do t be surprised if you find those nuts as they will often get right to the bottom. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Hello if you don't mind can I bring this one back

On my 2.4 Puma my front water jet stopped working so I followed the instructions herein and replaced the jet

Thanks guys Thumbs Up

But still it doesn't work - despite the pump making a noise - no water coming out of the tube.

So do I have to replace the water bottle and two pumps that come with it ?

Also do I have to dismantle the heater air intake to do this ?

As some of you know I am a debutant at getting my hands dirty so all advice gratefully received Mr. Green

Does water come out from the pump. That is what you need to know. If no, you need a new pump, if yes, you’ve got a split/cut pipe somewhere. Probably the oneway valve.

So is the pump is on the back of the water bottle right ? Do you know the best way to get to it ? I'll go down a take a look after work.

Just in case some one else comes along.

I replaced the front water jet with a CNC billet one - nada
I replaced the pump (accessible by removing the headlamp) - rien
I checked for splits and leaks - nichts

Then I found 3/4 down the wing, a tiny little plastic non return valve inserted into the tubing, I removed it, throughly cleaned it with some solvent and a tooth pick. Thumbs Up I have never seen so much water spray onto my windscreen ever. Flipping brilliant it is now. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

So if you only have a dribble check this little valve first.

Replaced my washer jet with the CSI Parts fan style one today.

Wasn’t a bad job thanks to the advice on here.

The new washer is so much better. Makes a huge difference and in my opinion is well worth £80.

Only annoyance with the CSI parts jet, was the new nut was 17mm (the old one was 13mm), so had to dig out my full socket set (which was hiding in the attic) and the deep 17mm socket was a really tight fit against the dash Very Happy

Other than that, really happy I did it! 2011 CSW XS 90

I've been off the forum for a while, in fact so much so hundreds and hundreds of new posts...

With the Defender being used less and less jumping in it and using the washer 'jets' you do think ooh they are cr@p...


I've put new bosh wipers on and tempted to use the CSI billet washer jet? I guess this is straightforward swap? I've had the head unit (double din) thing out so many times phafing with it and seen the bolt holding the jet on to bulkhead.


Has one one fitted a more powerful pump to the front system?

Hi Stacey. I know they are more expensive, but the Optimill washers and pump is absolutely excellent. Cannot fault it one little bit. It is one of those mods that should just be a standard mod like LED lights. Just my opinion I know, but that is how good I think they are.

I cleaned out all the pipes, the jet and the tank. I removed the non-return valve from the pipe run. The standard system now works OK. Another good inexpensive mod I've seen is to fit two standard jets.

On my 2015 CSW there's two pipes that run from the washer tank passed the heater. There's a push fit connector, on mine one was straight through the other was a non return valve. The valve reduces the flow quite a lot. I also modified the wiper relay so that washing does not start wiping, this allows for plenty of water on the screen before manually activating the wipers.

I can get some photos later on today if required.

Yes just carefully pull/feel the pipe by the heater box under the bonnet.

I replaced mine for a couple of quid, expecting it not to make a difference (and I’d have to replace the nozzle) BUT it was night and day - blasts the windscreen now 👍

Obviously you can also remove it which others have done.
