Heater Output poor

My heater output is about as warm as a glow worms derriere
Is this just a TD5 foible or is there something (easy & cheap ) I can do about it?
Even when the engine temp is just below half way ( normal ) it's warm at best.

Where's me coat.....

Have a quick check for any stretch on the wires from the controls to the box.

If they are stretched or the fitting is loose the rod wont be turning as much as it should when you flick the lever down. Thus not being on fully.

After writing this I'm second questioning if the heat is a setting by wire, but worth the check anyway!

Be sure to check your thermostat operation as well. If not operating properly, you wont get much heat. it's a Landrover thing...

If all of the points above are addressed, it should be really, really warm. Yes it'll never be as good as the Puma or newer cars, but if the cables, levers, thermostat etc. are all spot on then it'll be good enough

Definitely worth spending a bit of time checking everything moves that should - and you may need a helper.

I actually find mine very efficient (except for demisting the side windows) and it's been spot on over these past few colder days.

When they're working well they are good, infact I find myself backing the temperature off on mine and that's in a 110 station wagon! You will find that in traffic the heater output isn't as good as general normal driving

I fitted a new fan and a bilge blower into the inlet on mine and a hi flo inlet. With it properly adjusted so it gets full heat it all makes quite a difference.
I do have to wait for it to start reading a temperature before turning it on full, otherwise it never gets really hot.
It really is plenty now 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

The Td5 heater is more than adequate when properly sorted. Check everything listed in previous answers and make sure it is set up correctly. If you still have little to no heat start looking at the engine (head gasket, thermostat etc). I drive mine everyday and winter here is minus 20c or lower and I get heat enough to clear the windscreen and warm the cab (110 CSW). For more heat I also have a Wabasto diesel heater... yes the heater gets hot without it turned on. I also installed the digital fan control switch which spins the stock fan a lot better with more airflow. See info on this install here: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42251-15.html
