Anyone have an Alpine CDE-173 BT radio
Hello

Until I can get my head round paying 300 for a bit of plastic to enable me to do the double din conversion I've bought this as an 'upgrade' over the std Land Rover Radio.

I assume it will be plug and play? same connections etc?

My question also is where and how do you put the microphone in and where is best to have it?

I guess next will be better speakers Smile / Amp / Slippery slope Smile

thanks

I bought an Alpine CDE 136BT last yeah and put it in my 2011MY without needling any adaptors.

I fitted the mic to the top of the steering column, it works really well and doesn't obstruct the view of binnacle Russell

Have you got a 1 DIN installation cage? (May be in the box with it) Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Hello

will the std Landrover radio be a different cage? does this come out the front (like the radio) or will I need to remove the radio trim and take it out the back?

Will check I have this in the box.

Thanks

Russ - sounds about right, some require it others don't.
Mine didn't but was a very tight fit and others won't fit at all until every so slightly englarged.

Stacey007 - The LR radio will come out the front if you have suitable removal keys.
If you don't or don't want to buy them. (About a fiver)

Then yes your right with your other option. (Won't discuss for obvious reasons.)

The original LR radio / HU has no cage of its own, it does IIRC have metal tabs each side which you need to take out before fitting a 1DIN sleeve / cage.
These metal sections each side will come out easily.

The bigger fiddle will likely be the rear support rubber mount. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Thanks

I have the keys and have had the Original radio out previously (fitting the reversing camera)

So old radio out towards me, then the side holders out for the original radio? is this fairly straightforward?

Then fit the single DIN cage for the new radio (through the front?) Yes its in the box round the radio

Hopefully attach the leads and push the new radio in?

mmm I bet its harder actually doing it.....

These are the leads on a harness in the box, should these fit the LR loom?

thanks

Sounds about right, you will then just need set the spacers in the back of the radio (there should be some in the box of the new one) Russell

The lead in the back of the original radio are exactly the same and should plug straight into the radio so no need for that lead Thumbs Up Russell

Yes, those plugs in the photo are Female ISO connectors. A 2007 - 2012 has Male ISO connectors fitted Fromm the factory so fits straight in.

Post 2012 an adapter is required, but still plug straight in then and no hard wiring required.

LR should have stayed with ISO anyway... Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Radio mounting
Had to take off instrument panel to cure a switch problem - due to my clumsiness the radio became loose and wouldnt go back in. Noticed a steel post/mount on the back of the radio unit and realised this should go into the rubber mount / grommet on the bracket at the back which them absorbs shocks and holds the radio firm. The grommet had become dislodged :( :( due to my fumbling and when i tried to secure it - it fell down into the bottom of the instrument panel. Can just see it, can't reach it and no intention of dismantling the whole of the dash just to retrieve it!

does anybody know where i can get a replacement or its part number?

i really shouldn't delve into areas i know nothing about!

I bought the Alpine UTE-200BT a few days ago.

Came with the DIN cage - which is an easy fit.

Loom that came with it fitted the LR ISO plugs - all worked fine and slotted into the dash no problem.

Microphone wire was run up the drivers side A post and clipped to the sun visor.

Now I have decent audio that does not keep randomly turning itself on Very Happy Rgds.

Update re the rubber radio mount grommet- fantastic service from my LR dealership ( Lakeland Land Rover at Coniston )
the part is no longer available but the parts guy asked in their workshop and they found an old one and then posted it out to me with no charge

they deserve a good word - as so often they get slagged off
