Had to modify the gearbox crossmember to clear the exhaust, the 200 exhaust runs a slightly different route to the old 2.25. 2006 TD5110 station wagon

Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. It’s almost ready for mot and while it’s so clean and good underneath I want to paint the chassis. Does anyone have any recommendations for chassis paint? Hammerite isn’t what it used to be, what do you suggest??

Just doing my chassis while I’m replacing panels (because someone ran into it AGAIN) and I’d recommend por15. It’s not cheap as there’s a fair bit of work involved but it looks good and is very tough so great for chassis's Thumbs Up some pics on my build thread if your interested. Ray

Great thread! As for paint, I'd recommend Jotun products.

I'm using the following and am very impressed;

- Penguard HB Primer
- Hardtop AX top coat

Not cheap but, also not ludicrously expensive. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

Nice looking work, and a nice truck.

I'd like to follow up on the bulkhead question too. I saw that you'd been among the posters on the 'shielder bulkhead' thread.

Now that you've got the car fully assembled, to the point of an MOT, did you have any material problems with the bulkhead? I'm asking as I've a friend who's about to take his 90 apart to swap the bulkhead and he's trying to decide where to get one. Donald

Out of curiosity, you're planning to leave the (galvanized) bulkhead as-is, or will you get it painted it at some point later? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

Thanks for your replies. As you can see the bulkhead and the door bottoms haven’t been painted yet. I’m undecided as to what to do. I don’t want to paint the whole vehicle because the wings , bonnet tub etc have got nearly 40 years of stories to tell, and I don’t want to lose that. I might just paint the door bottoms and leave the bulkhead as it is for a bit. I’ll give it a geed wash and a scrub and see what I’ve got to work with.

With regards to the quality of the bulkhead, I would buy another. Sometimes people’s expectations are a little high when buying such items and I believe it’s better to expect that a little bit of fettling will be required. It’s all back together without too much hassle, dash is in and the wings, doors and roof line up nicely. I ordered it when they 1st released them at the introductory offer of £999. I hadn’t expected it to be perfect, and it wasn’t, but it’s definitely an acceptable attempt at a remanufactured bulkhead. Shielder have made hundreds of these now and I’d expect that any issues with the early ones would have been ironed out by now. 2006 TD5110 station wagon

Had an MOT yesterday, the original wheels have been taken off for blasting then paint so I’ve put a spare set on for now. Still hasn’t had a good clean but I’m delighted with it. Been too busy looking at it to wash it!!!
