Shim style wheel spacers
This is my first post but have found reading all the information on this forum invaluable. Hopefully you can help me with a bit of advice.

I have recently fitted 265 75 16 Cooper AT3 tyres on standard Boost Alloys to my 2009 Puma 110 Utility and really like the look of the wheels and tyres. At the same time I also fitted 30 mm spacers which look fine at the front where the vehicle is a little lower but at the rear the wheels look a bit 'Carlos Fandango'. They are still inside the arch but just look a bit to far out.

Obviously I can remove the spacers and run the standard track but I had already experienced some rubbing on full lock when I had 235 85's fitted. As far as I can see there are no hub centric bolt on spacers that are narrower than 30 mm so I was wondering if anyone has nay advice on the use of shim style spacers that use the original studs to attach the wheel. What is the maximum thickness you can safely install - I have seen 5 mm, 6 mm and 10 mm shim spacers advertised but don't want to lose a wheel because a stud snaps or the nuts strip due to a lack of thread.

Any advice gracefully received.

They cannot be much thinner as the material has to be of a certain thickness to take the load and the thickness of the retaining nut has to be below the new mating surface for the road wheel. I don't expect that you will find any thinner unless they are made of steel. NormanD WE191

Thanks for your reply NormanD. Yes, I agree that 30 mm seems to be the minimum for bolt on type spacers but I was interested to hear if anyone had used the shim type spacers which simply sandwich between the hub and wheel - they are normally quite thin (5- 10 mm)

Then you have the problem of the wheel nut thread being shortened, unless of course you also change the Wheel Studs for the longer version, somebody will be along to tell you the part number of the stud you would require - 20 off NormanD WE191
