Please idiot check my rear hub overhaul process
Hello all,
I don't have much time to have the vehicle off the road so I'm very keen to have everything go smooth with an overhaul of the rear hubs/brakes/transmission, including a conversion to the old locknut system, quite a dang lot of the parts...
The steps, as I see them:
Wheel, cap, circlip, flange off
Brake Caliper off and tied up out of the way (still connected to fluid)
Halfshaft out
TDCi stake nut off + washer behind (hub now loose) - stake nut in the bin.
Hub off (assuming drag arm taper taped off already)
Stub axle off – clean/check bearing surface, stare at part FRC2310 with existential glee*.
Old Seal FTC5268 out, new in (3D print tools if required)
Clean axle/stub axle mating surfaces, new gasket FTC3650 in
Stub axle back on – bolts at 65Nm + loctite/STC50550 (this is the torque rating for the front at least, can’t find spec on rear yet, assume the same?)
Back to the hub:
Replace brake rotor – bolts at 73Nm + loctite/STC50550
Old Seal FTC4785 out
Old bearings and spacer out, new bearings in, minus spacer (careful tappy tappy, then use old bearing as install tool)
New Seal FTC4785 in (tips here?)
Hub back on stub axle.
Fit spacing washer FTC3185
Fit adjustment nut FRC8700 : tighten to 50~61Nm, back off by 90°, re-torque to 4~10Nm (different info on the net !?) (DTI on hub, probe on adjustment but, check end float <= 0.01mm)
Fit lock washer FTC3179
Fit locknut FRC8700 – torque to 61Nm, tab over lock washer to nuts.
Caliper back on - bolts at 82Nm + loctite/STC50550 (again, this is the torque rating for the front, can’t find rear spec)
Clean hub/flange surfaces
New Halfshaft in - how do I make sure it doesn't push the inner seal (FTC5268) out of its seat in the stub axle??
New gasket 571752 on
Flange on, with greased splines or loctite 660 if you're feeling experimental – bolts at 65Nm + loctite/STC50550
Circlip on
Grease cap, put on
Time for smoko/cuppa
Wheel back on,
Enjoy oneself until something craps itself or 100,000+kms, whichever comes first
Repeat (and if you enjoy this kind of thing then make sure you use Britpart branded pattern parts)
I didn't include much info re. brakes (pads/bleed etc.) or tool required (52mm socket, 12-points, torque wrenches, flarenut wrench, DTI, got em!) - this is more about the hub/bearing/seal stuff.
Some conflicting info re. parts numbers for the locknut conversion. The inner washer/spacer FTC3185, I thought it might be a bit bigger to cover the full face of the bearing:

Should be fine... I'm overthinking it...
Anyhoos: question: what have I neglected to think about?
