Hi all... Was speaking to a guy today and he was informimg me of an issue that can occur with the TD5 oil pump bolt, and that it can come loose and destroy the engine... Is this a common problem ?

There was a problem with some earlier [10P] versions dropping the bolt owing to incorrect torque and thread lock issues.
Seemed to affect a certain 'run' of engines rather than all in general ....Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

I have a Defender TD5 1999 with 143k on the clock....I just checked and replaced my oil pump sprocket bolt, it was tight but no sign of thread lock being used. Safer to just remove the sump, replace the bolt using loctite 262 or 271 as I did.
Took 4hrs start to finish with fresh oil & filters parts were £12.00, much cheaper than a £1200 engine !!
The old bolt...
