Best stage one remap
l've recently acquired a 2014 Defender and have been looking at stage 1 remaps for the engine.

We tow a caravan so a bit of extra power would be welcome. Superchips is offering a remap to 165bhp for £250.

The BAS remap is 150bhp and costs £475. Can anyone recommend a company, preferably one that will come to my home address and do it.

Also BAS claim their remap makes the Defender smoother at low speeds where it tends to kangaroo unless l am careful on the clutch and gas pedal.

Superchips don't mention this. Is 150-160bhp safe for this engine if it's towing at motorway speeds for longer distances?

BAS is the gold standard. Not familiar with Superchip’s offerings. If you do this, you must also fit a EGT gauge with the probe before the turbo. More power equals more heat. You have to watch the EGT (pyrometer aka “pyro”) and self-regulate the throttle to keep temps in check.

I did the Allisport plug and play tuner since it was an easy DIY install and I had some time to be able to return it if I didn't like it...

I have BAS 165bhp on my 2.4 Puma. Figured I was spending, might as well go all out as I have a new, uprated intercooler. It really transforms the truck. I hardly have to step hard on the accelerator. I now press down on it less and goes up to speed on its own nice and smooth. But should you need more power, a further press on the accelerator pastes you to your seat and off you go!

I also went for EGR delete, Immobilizer Delete (pesky EMF interference, luckily no one nicks Defenders in these parts), Speed adjustment to 160 km/h.

Before, I can hit 140 km/h and hardly feel it, the truck will just not go faster anymore and you have to double check your speedometer to find out why. Now, even at just 120 km/h you feel you moving quicker and the engine has much more, SO MUCH more to give! Will eventually try to see what 160 km/h feels like when I go out for a longer drive, should be fun.

Sorry for the long winded response. You can tell I'm happy with my decision. You won't regret going with BAS. Not to mention their support is great! No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy

Both BAS and Alive supplied maps direct to Landrover Dealership when purchasing New. You won’t go wrong with either option. I had the stage 2 supplied new with my workhorse back in 2015, 38k miles zero issues. Mine was through Alive. I believe Pete at BAS wrote the maps for the Autobiography model?? Both do a version that you can put on/off the vehicle yourself. There is plenty on this forum, about either supplier, they’ve both been around for a number of years, and would be the only 2 I’d use.

If your towing and want then extra umph for that purpose I would suggest a larger intercooler or uprated efficiceny intercooler to keep temps down with any map. Cheers

Intercooler is very good advice for controlling the extra temp you'll no doubt experience on long towing trips. Alive, BAS are top choices. Just ensure you are going for plenty of torque in your map, again for towing.

we have Alive on our 90XS
regards 2kangarooing" then if you rest your foot on the clutch switch it will try and activate the anti-stall and can see things a little less than smooth
I also had various issues when first purchased which in the end turned out to be a faulty clutch switch and is transformed once it was replaced

Am very tempted to try one of these - likely the stage 1 so no new intercooler required. What were your experiences with insurance premiums? When I spoke to NFU re the stage 1 they were going to put the premium up by 40% ... which seemed like a lot extra to pay each year (50% of the re-map cost).

Remap was going to be stage 1 from Alive tuning:
STANDARD 122BHP/330NM
STAGE 1: 160/380
