Quite impressive that over 35miles they were only 4mm out, makes a Land Rovers build tolerance even more laughable!
Wouldn't mind a trip through it. Would be nice if they could find a way of doing auto-rail routes through it. Drive to France, Defender on train, wake up in Italy, drive home via the mountains! Oh Shaggy, be honest, you'll miss that interminable drone from the tyres, that deafening cabin noise and induction hum as you drive endless straight miles through flat, tedious, grey northern France. Assuming you don't run out of petrol first...!! Monsieur Le Grenadier

Hahah if I run out of petrol my journey has ended long before it got started
![]() ![]() It is true, I would love to get over to the alps more but its the long tedious bit in the middle which puts me and my girlfriend off. If you think its bad in a Tdci imagine the hum at 60mph 200Tdi!! Otherwise I'd be over at least once a month with the snowboard or camping chair and wine rack ![]() ![]() Self confessed mileage hunter ![]() |

But living in Kent you have the worst bit out of the way!! And if you stay longer, the 10hrs will be less painful!! Mind you, with the weather we've had in the last month (the wettest May in a generation apparently) you've not missed out quite yet!! Monsieur Le Grenadier

Very true. Especially as I am now much closer to France than I was
![]() I have plans to come visit don't worry ![]() Its Miss Shaggydog's first day at a new job today so once her probationary period is up in 3 months she may be able to take some holiday. Failing that may take some days off and have an extended weekend stay in between. The motorail trains from Holland/Germany definitely go through the old Gotthard tunnel - I took the BMW out to Italy and back in 2012 on the now-defunct Autoslaaptrein from Holland. There is a new service to Verona though.
Sadly a Defender is too tall for motorail services - there is a limit of 1.83m I think. ![]() ![]() |

I just looked at that and they give you a option for vehicles over 1.55m but no upper limit- which is not very helpful! I do seem to remember it being 1.83m though so you may well be correct ![]() Oh well, suppose I better just get some more songs for on the way then!
