2003 TD5 odd noise from transmission
Hi All

When I hit around 60mph I get an odd 'circular saw' noise from the transmission. It literally happens 1mph either side of 60, so once I go slightly over 60 it stops.

It's not particularly loud and doesn't seem to affect performance, however I'm concerned it could be a warning sign of problems ahead.

Anyone else had a similar issue?

Maybe not much help but, if it's only occurring at one very specific road speed / engine speed / frequency, I would suspect it's some kind of resonance or rattle similar to what you might get from say a heat shield somewhere.

I get a similar sort of noise sometimes around 40. Seems to have gone away recently though. Happens in any gear too. Afraid I can't help, but it didn't strike me as a bad noise so I haven't worried!

1, transmission brake shoes rubbing on the drum Question

2, are all the UJ in good order ?

had same problem 50 mph back prop UJ had failed, vibration in gear stick too
